Roger Federer wins record Cincinnati Masters title

Roger Federer has won a record 5th Western & Southern Open title in Cincinnati with a 6-0, 7-6(7) victory over Serbian rival Novak Djokovic.

Roger Federer entered the 2012 Cincinnati Masters with Novak Djokovic chasing his No 1 ranking. But after a strong campaign which saw Federer not drop serve all tournament, Federer will continue to reign as the World No 1.

The victory over rival Novak Djokovic marked Roger Federer‘s 21st Masters title and (for a 3rd time this year) he has equalled Rafael Nadal‘s record for most Masters titles won.

By reaching the final of the 2012 Cincinnati Masters, Roger Federer ensured that he will be the top seed at the 2012 US Open where he will campaign for his 18th Grand Slam title.

Heading into the US Open, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic are hot favorites to reach the final. Federer and Djokovic have played each other at the US Open for the last 5 consecutive years, with Djokovic claiming the last 2 victories.

Roger Federer will also have to face a strong challenge from British rival Andy Murray who crushed Roger Federer in the Gold Medal match at the 2012 London Olympics.

Federer feels that he is ready for the US Open and does not need to do any further work on his game prior to the US Open.

“I rarely do crazy things before slams anyway. I feel like the work is done before so there are ways of, how shall I say, preparing maybe more physically and mentally [for] New York or the slams. And there are others where you can do it more by playing matches and a lot of practice.”

Roger Federer will enter the US Open looking to extend his record of reaching the Quarter finals of better of the last 33 Grand Slam tournaments.
